Most vintage clothing is the result of high quality craftsmanship, and it is not uncommon for vintage clothe collectors to exclusively pursue any high fashion items. This is something which would have originally been custom made by hand for the wearer, and would have exquisite detail in the needlework and the fabric would be of the highest quality. Although vintage clothing stores are usually a bit pricier than thrift shops when it comes to second hand clothing, they usually more than make up for it in terms of quality and selectiveness, as you won’t have to sift through nearly as many clothes before you find something you like, and you are much more likely to find something unique.

If shopping for retro clothes is your thing, then a trip to Atlanta could well be a good move. In particular, the Little Five Points district has quite a high concentration of high quality, unique vintage clothing stores, but there are a few good ones outside of this area too. Why not give these a whirl next time you’re in town:

Stefan’s: One of the longest-established vintage clothing shops in Atlanta, Stefan’s, located in the Little Five Points district, is proof of the maxim that small can be beautiful. Although there are many larger vintage clothing shops around, few can match Stefan’s for the sheer concentration of funky clothes and groovy accessories. As well as stocking a very nice range of retro clothing and accessories, including hats and shoes, for men and women, they can also boast a unique range of vintage aprons. It’s not as cheap as some of the bigger thrift stores, but the overall high quality and diversity more than makes up for it.

Clothing Warehouse: If you are prepared to spend time looking for a real retro bargain, then make your way along to Clothing Warehouse in the Little Five Points district. With racks and racks of low to mid price vintage clothes arranged in colour order like a retro rainbow, it might take you a while, but you’re sure to find something to fit your shape and style in here! They stock a large selection of women’s and men’s clothing, so whether you’re after a nurse’s outfit or a pair of cowboy boots, you’ll find it in here.

Rag-o-Rama: Halfway between a thrift shop and a vintage store, Rag-o-Rama, in Little Five Points, is a perfect place to find unusual clothing and fancy dress. Although they do not have a strict cut-off date for vintage items, and as a result stock many less desirable items from recent years alongside the vintage stuff, if you have the time, you can always get something cool from here. This shop is popular with students and young hipsters due to their huge selection and low prices, so if you want to look your best for less, give Rag o Rama a whirl. In addition to their second hand clothing lines, they also stock some wild accessories for fancy dress parties, such us crazy sunglasses and wigs, so if you have a frat party planned in Atlanta, make sure to drop in here first!

Lucky Exchange: There are two Lucky Exchange shops in Atlanta, one in Ponce de Leon in Midtown and one in Moreland, near East Atlanta. Although the selection of clothes that they stock is a little heavy on the eighties and nineties side, the ease of parking, relaxed setting, and lower than average prices make it well worth a visit. You can even get away with a doing a bit of haggling if you’ve got the guts!

Psycho Sisters: Like a smaller version of Rag-o-Rama, Psycho Sisters, with shops in Little Five Points, Marietta and Cartersville, feature a mix of modern and vintage clothing with a rock’n'roll vibe. If you’re looking for a costume, particularly for a Halloween costume, then Psycho Sisters could be just the place to begin your search, although there are plenty of bargains to be had on day to day clothing for the rebellious teen in all of people!

Vintage clothing is easy to come by from most second hand shops. You need to know what you are looking for, but there are usually plenty to choose from. Vintage clothing is still as fashionable today as it was when it was made. It is a way you can set yourself out from the crowd with unique fabrics and needle work, while still being hip and cool.
